St. Mary's Visitation Science Teacher Receives Prestigious Herb Kohl Fellowship Award

The selection committee for the Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Scholarship and Fellowship Program has announced recipients of the 2014 Herb Kohl Foundation awards for students and teachers.

The $1000 awards are being made to 100 teachers, their school, and 187 graduating high school students.

It is with pride that we announce that Junior High Science teacher, Mrs. Kathy Biernat has been named 2014 Fellowship Award Winner.

Fellowship Award recipients are chosen for their superior ability to inspire a love of learning in their students, their ability to motivate others, and for their leadership and service within and outside the classroom. Excellence Scholarship and Fellowship recipients are selected by a statewide committee composed of civic leaders, and representatives of education-related associations and the program’s co-sponsors: The Wisconsin Newspaper Association Foundation, Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction, Wisconsin of Religious and Independent Schools (WCRIS), and regional Cooperative Educational Service Agencies (CESA).

The Kohl Foundation Scholarship and Fellowship program was established by Herb Kohl, U.S. Senator (Retired) in 1990. To date the foundation has awarded $8.6 million Wisconsin educators, students and their schools.

Congratulations, Mrs. Biernat!!!  We are proud of your achievements.  This award further demonstrates our school's continuing commitment to leadership in areas of Information, Technology and Media Skills.  SMV is recognized as exemplary in these areas by the Archdiocese of Milwaukee Catholic Schools.
