The morning after. Life will never be same again for Obama

Elections, President Obama, United States, War

Last week, President Bush expressed some final thoughts about his presidency. In his speech, he reminded us of the heavy mantle of responsibility a president bears--especially in a post 9/11 world. He said, (My emphasis)

As the years passed, most Americans were able to return to life much as it had been before 9/11. But I never did. Every morning, I received a briefing on the threats to our nation. And I vowed to do everything in my power to keep us safe.

President elect Obama received security briefings too, but today marks the first time that President Obama starts his day in the White House with the grim news of possible terrorist plots. Today, the responsibility to keep America safe is his. As Bush said,

While our nation is safer than it was seven years ago, the gravest threat to our people remains another terrorist attack. Our enemies are patient and determined to strike again. America did nothing to seek or deserve this conflict. But we have been given solemn responsibilities, and we must meet them. We must resist complacency. We must keep our resolve. And we must never let down our guard.

Is it any wonder president's hair usually turns gray and they visibly age during their term?

For comic relief, possibly Obama will get the Biden gaffe report too. The Obama/Biden team had to issue a vague press release to smooth over Dr. Jill Biden's revelation on Oprah that her husband Joe was offered his choice of 2 jobs: Secretary of State or Vice President. Memo to the rescue.

I imagine once a president knows about all the probable and possible threats against our nation, that even after they are out of office, they never rest as easily as they did before they took office. My day will start much the same as it did during President Bush's term, by praying for God to give our president wisdom and to bless and work out His will in our nation.
