It was nice of the US Postal Service to wait until after Mother's Day to raise their rates by 2 cents for First Class mail... ;-)

Gas prices can't be the driving factor for the 4.76% increase. After all, gas prices were near peak last spring when they raised rates last May.

It is pretty difficult to just use another service. The US Postal Service has a monopoly on mail.

I wonder if those wanting government health care ever think that it won't have a no price increase guarantee any more than our government sanctioned US Post Office? (Both the insurance companies and the Postal Service are said to be private industries.) That discussion will have to wait for another day.

For now just remember that a one ounce domestic piece of mail will cost you 44 cents to send and a post card, 28 cents. Here are the new rates.
