Brookfield - The Brookfield Police officer who was struck and injured by a hit-and-run driver early Friday remained hospitalized on Saturday.

Officer Paul Dilger was on foot on W. North Ave. when he was struck early Friday morning.

He is being treated at Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa for a head injury, Capt. Phil Horter said. Dilger suffered a cut to the back of his head and scrapes to his face and head.

He was knocked unconscious after he was struck by the car, but awoke before he was transported to the hospital.

Dilger was one of three officers who had responded to a call for service in the 19100 block of W. North Ave. just after midnight. The officers had parked their squad cars on North Ave. and were walking west on North Ave. to the residence when Dilger was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound on North Ave., Horter said.

The suspect vehicle has not been located. But police have received several tips from citizens and are following up on them.
