Most public school districts in state offer K4, DPI says

The state Department of Public Instruction this week announced that 85 percent of school districts in Wisconsin now offer 4-year-old kindergarten classes.

Seventeen districts added K4 programs for the 2010-11 school year, bringing the total to 350 across the state. That's up from 166 in 2001-02.

As part of a multifaceted approach to curb declining resident enrollment and bring in more revenue, the Elmbrook School District is considering adding a K4 program starting in fall 2011.

A vote on the proposal could come before the School Board early next year.

School Board OKs proposals for new courses in 2011-12

The Elmbrook School Board last week approved two new high school electives for 2011-12: abnormal psychology, and crime, society and the law.

Both classes will be offered through the high schools' social studies departments.
