Brookfield students compete in mock trial tournament

Students from dozens of Wisconsin high schools will gather in courthouses and other venues across the state Feb. 12 to compete in the 28th Annual Wisconsin High School Mock Trial Tournament.

The top 12 teams will move on to statewide competition in Madison on March 13 and 14. The team that finishes first in that competition will go on to represent Wisconsin at the National Mock Trial Championship in Phoenix from May 7 to 9.

Mock trials, which follow the rules and structure of a real court trial, offer teams of six to 12 high school students the opportunity to argue a case before a three-person panel of judges, made up of volunteer attorneys and jurists.

Mock trial competitions are open to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Students from Brookfield Academy, Brookfield East, Messmer, Mukwonago, Pewaukee, Pius XI, Shorewood, Wauwatosa and Whitefish Bay high schools will be among the competitors.
