Aerial mosquito spraying to take place Thursday

June 29, 2011

The city of Brookfield will conduct its second mosquito spraying of the summer on Thursday, due to elevated larvae counts in wetlands around the city.

The spraying, done by helicopter, will cover 550 acres.

Areas sprayed will include:

wetlands adjacent to the Fox River between North Avenue and Capitol Drive, including Mitchell Park

wetlands north and west of Wirth Park

portions of the wetlands to the south and east of Rolling Meadows Park between Brookfield Road and Calhoun Road

the Butler Ditch corridor, east and west of Lilly Road near Lilly Heights Park

The treatment will consist of a granular biolarvicide. There are no restrictions for the public use of treated areas, but park users should avoid using the areas of the park while treatment is under way.
