Elmbrook company receives Federal Contractor award

Gov. Scott Walker recently announced the winners of the annual Governor's Federal Contractor Awards. These awards recognize state firms that have not only shown significant growth in their federal sales, but are recognized as outstanding suppliers to the federal government.

Nagel Architects, an architectural design firm with experience and expertise in a variety of complex project types including health care, commercial and lab planning and design, received the 2012 new federal contractor award.

They have tripled their business over the past four years and increased employment at a similar level. Their federal clients include the Department of Veterans Affairs, the USDA, NAVFAC and the U.S. Army. They are currently working as a prime contractor and as a subcontractor on a variety of contracts with the VA in six locations regionally and are providing design services to the Army at Rock Island Arsenal.

R.A. Smith National to provide services for football program

R.A. Smith National, a multi-disciplined civil engineering and surveying firm in Brookfield, is providing re-staking services pro bono for the Junior Hilltoppers' youth football program in Milwaukee County.

In 2009, R.A. Smith National provided surveying and field layout services for the installation of a home field at Dretzka Park and practice fields at Brown Deer and Greenfield Parks.

Junior Hilltoppers Sports Clubs, Inc., an independent nonprofit organization affiliated with Marquette University High School, coordinates the youth football program for fifth through eighth-grade students.

Bigsby's of Elm Grove to attend Oconomowoc show

BERNINA of America, a manufacturer of sewing, embroidery and quilting machines, has announced the Bigsby's Sewing Center, a BERNINA dealer located at 13200 Watertown Plank Road in Elm Grove, will showcase the B 780 Embroidery machine at the 2012 Upper Midwest Show in Oconomowoc.

The show, which has an emphasis on machine quilting, is slated for Monday to Aug. 4 at the Olympia Resort & Conference Center, 1350 Royale Mile Road.

The Upper Midwest Show will feature more than 30 vendors, quilt exhibits and several instructors from around the country who will lead more than 130 beginner to intermediate-level quilting classes and lectures on topics that include domestic sewing machines, long-arm machines, drawing and design, painting and embellishing.
