Brookfield Academy

The middle school's Margot Armbruster and Ravi Kodali scored in the top 5 percent of more than 350,000 students who participated in the AMC 8,a national contest dedicated to identifying, recognizing and rewarding excellence in mathematics. They earned the highest scores to-date among BA students, and their combined scores helped to earn the school a Certificate of Merit.

Brookfield Central

The third annual BC Athletic Hall of Fame Banquet will be held at 6 p.m. May 17 at Westmoor Country Club, 400 S. Moorland Road. The banquet is sponsored by the BCHS Booster Club.

Brookfield Christian

The fifth-graders have been learning about the 13 colonies and have created board games as part of the unit. The students will play their games together. Seventh-grade students have been presenting demonstration speeches to classmates this week, including "How to Make a Duct Tape Pencil Case" and "How to Make Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Truffles."

Brookfield East

Several students received top recognition in the 2014 Wisconsin Scholastic Art Awards this month. The Gold Key (first-place) winners are senior Anandah Bohl for digital art, junior Jessica Hitchcock for sculpture and junior Andrea Lans for painting. Silver Key (second-place) winners are senior Miranda Glembin for painting and junior Kenn Larson for sculpture. Gold Key award winners advance to the national competition in New York.

Brookfield Elementary

CLIMB Theater returned to Brookfield Elementary on Jan. 14 to address the year's theme of bullying prevention. CLIMB theater is a touring, educational program that brings plays and programs that are research-based and have high educational and artistic quality.

Burleigh Elementary

The Drama Club presents a musical every other year. This year's musical is "Shine Your Way." About 185 fourth- and fifth-grade students will be singing and dancing to a musical revue written and directed by the school's vocal music teacher, Katie Bart. Rehearsals began Monday; performances will be at the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts on March 26, 27 and 28. All students will travel by bus to the Wilson Center to view the musical.

Dixon Elementary

Yo Mama! Frozen Yogurt and Goodies, 2205 N. Calhoun Road, will offer 30 percent of proceeds to the school from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. Tuesday. All you have to do is mention you're a Dixon family.

Elm Grove Lutheran

Grades kindergarten through eight are happy to be partnering with the American Heart Association in the Jump Rope For Heart jump-a-thon to be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 27. This is a community service learning program of the American Heart Association, which teaches kids the importance of developing heart-healthy habits, that being physically active can be fun, and that raising money to support cardiovascular research and education helps save lives. Parents and friends can donate online or through the students or teachers. There were kick-off assemblies Jan. 13 to give students information and to encourage participation.

Immanuel Lutheran

Eighth-grader Ethan Pankow is Immanuel's spelling bee champion, and sixth-grader Catherine Kroeninger is Immanuel's geography bee champion. Pankow will represent Immanuel at the regional spelling bee at the CESA 1 building Feb. 20. Kroeninger will be taking a written geography test to determine if she is eligible to go on to the state meet.

Pilgrim Park

Middle School

On Jan. 10, a group of auditioned seventh- and eighth-grade choir students had the honor of singing the national anthem at a Milwaukee Bucks game. Students performed a three-part, a cappella version of the national anthem and enjoyed watching the game after their performance.

St. Dominic

On Jan. 10, Tucker came in to read with the first-graders in Kathy Thomas's class. Tucker is part of a service program titled "Read to Rover." The national program uses trained therapy dogs to listen to children read. It provides a safe, non-threatening environment for children to read without the stress of being "corrected" by a well-intentioned human. As the students learn about service and what it means to be of service to others, Tucker helps them see that all of God's creation is involved in service. We all have gifts to offer, even our four-legged furry friends.

St. John Vianney

Anyone who missed last week's open house, but is interested in seeing what SJV has to offer, is invited to take a tour during the Catholic Schools Week Open House on Jan. 26 after the 11 a.m. Mass. Interested parties also can call (262) 796-3942 to schedule a personal tour with President Pamela Pyzyk. Classrooms will be open, and staff and families will be on hand to answer questions. St. Mary's Visitation

St. Mary's Visitation is hosting an open house from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 26. Prospective new families of children in grades 3-year-old kindergarten through eight are invited to enjoy a complimentary pancake breakfast, followed by a tour and an opportunity to meet with the St. Mary's faculty and Principal Mary Tretow. Swanson Elementary

The Fifth-Grade Recognition Committee will hold an ice cream sale during lunch hours Jan. 24. All treats will cost $1. Proceeds will support programs and activities to honor graduating students.

Wisconsin Hills

Middle School

Wisconsin Hills Middle School had a successful lock-down drill Jan. 16, preparing students for what to do in the event that an unauthorized person enters the building. Students recognized the need for such a drill and obeyed rules accordingly, namely to remain silent and to comply to every direction provided by staff. Parents are encouraged to speak with their children about their drill experience and to re-emphasize the need for silence and adherence to directions during such a scenario.
