City attorney reviewing bowhunting rules

Upon the request of Mayor Steve Ponto, city attorney Karen Flaherty said she is drafting an ordinance "doing the strictest thing possible" to limit bowhunting in the city.

With bowhunters already reported tracking deer on city property, the ordinance would prohibit the use of bows and crossbows on city-owned or city-leased land. It would also prohibit bowhunting within 100 yards of a residence without that owner's permission, and would require that hunters shoot downward.

Flaherty plans to present the ordinance to the Legislative and Licensing Committee at a future meeting for review.
