Congratulations to the finalists for the 2014 National Merit Scholarships: Samuel Baureis, Emily Esser, Griffin Gill, Paige Hammond, William McCarty, James McMullen, Clare Urbanski, Justin Zhu and Troy Zimmermann. Approximately half of all finalists from across the country will win a National Merit Scholarship, to be awarded later this spring.
On Feb. 27, Brookfield Central hosted a spirit night at Blaze Pizza, located at 17530 W. Blue Mound Road. Proceeds went toward Project Graduation, a final event for seniors before they graduate.
Brookfield Christian School's ongoing building expansion project will allow the school to offer extended options for grades 3K and 4K for next year. The school will now offer two or three mornings for 3K, and 4K will have options from three mornings or afternoons up to five full days. The building expansion is scheduled to be completed summer 2014. BCS serves grades 3K-8.
Students in Brookfield East's International Relations class discussed and debated the use of military drones on Feb. 21.

The Trinity Irish Dancer Troupe, a student-based group out of Milwaukee, will perform for Burleigh Elementary on St. Patrick's Day, March 17. The assembly will include at least one Burleigh student. The troupe is made up of students in different grade levels.
During the month of February, the Dixon Student Council collected shoes for needy children in Africa. "Shoes for America" is a nonprofit organization that provides new and gently used shoes for the people of Africa that desperately need them.
Elm Grove Lutheran
On Feb. 27, handbell ringers from fifth- through eighth-grades, known as the Hosanna and the Jubilate Ringers, worked with the two handbell ensembles from Concordia University in Irvine, Calif., who visited the church and school last week. The two groups, the Concert Handbells and the Spirit Bells, are select ringers who have performed in 33 states and 11 nations across Europe and the Far East. They performed for the church earlier on Feb. 26.
The fifth annual Monte Carlo Night will be held April 12 at St. Mary's Visitation School, located at 13000 Juneau Blvd., from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. The fundraiser will support The Friends of Fairview South and Team Up! With Families, a service organization that supports families of people with special needs. Tickets cost $25 each and will include a chance to purchase gaming chips, door prizes, desserts and auction items. The Immanuel Auction theme this year is "Germanfest." Students in each grade made a classroom project, which will be up for bid. Among the class projects are a Schnitzelbank bench, decorated flower pot, tile cross, wooden cross, lamps and a bean bag toss.
A Middle Level Forensics Association-sanctioned meet was held at Pilgrim Park on Feb. 21. The Pilgrim Park 4N6 Team played host to 760 actors and speakers. Thirty-two team members from Pilgrim Park advanced to the Power Rounds and received multiple trophies. The team's next meet will be held March 8. The state meet will be held at South Milwaukee High School on March 22.
St. Dominic Catholic School K3 students had a pajama day at school recently and wore their pajamas to class. The classes collected pajamas and books for The Pajama Program. The eighth-grade helpers helped sort and count the pajama day collection, totaling 44 pajamas and 37 books to be donated to the Waukesha County Foster Care program and domestic violence shelters.
St. John Vianney
St. John Vianney School's annual Book Drive is underway, and anyone can drop off books, DVDs and VHS tapes at the parish or school office until March 7. The materials will be donated to Prince of Peace School (SJV's sister parish in Milwaukee), the Women's Center in Waukesha and St. Hyacinth's in Milwaukee.
St. Mary's Visitation
St. Mary's Visitation School is hosting its annual Auction for Education Saturday at 5:45 p.m. at St. Mary's gymnasium. SMV school parents, alumni and parishioners will get together to celebrate "That 70s Auction," which will include dinner; a silent and voice auction; raffle; and much more.
The Swanson Library is in urgent need of volunteers to help with check-in, check-out and shelving on Monday mornings, from around 9 to 11:30 a.m. and on Friday mornings from around 9 to 11 a.m. Other time slots are also available. Wisconsin Hills' eighth-grade students will celebrate their second TGIF social outing March 14. The day will consist of an Admirals hockey game and a visit to the Sky Zone Trampoline Park.
