Board might charge for fire inspections

June 22, 2009

Elm Grove could increase its revenues by about $5,900 per year by charging commercial and multifamily residential building owners a fee for fire inspections.

Fire inspections are required of all such buildings, and the money raised from fees would partially offset the village's cost of employing a part-time fire inspector, said Village Clerk Mary Stredni.

The Village Board on Tuesday will consider a proposal to charge $5 per unit for fire inspections at multifamily buildings; $50 to $200 - depending on the building's size - for hospitals, nursing homes and community-based residential facilities; and $25 to $175 for other commercial buildings.

The Legislative Committee recommended the fire inspection fees June 18.
