St. Mary's Visitation

The academic quiz bowl team traveled to Rockford, Ill., recently for the Keith Invitational Tournament at Keith Country Day School. The tournament is sponsored by the IESA Scholastic Bowl. Fourteen members of the St. Mary's quiz bowl team - all junior high students - attended the daylong meet. Quiz bowl is a game in which teams compete head-to-head to answer questions from all areas of knowledge. The defining feature of quiz bowl is the use of a buzzer system that lets players interrupt the reading of a question when they know the answer. Points are earned for the correct answer. This was the team's first away-meet of the season. Since SMV is the only middle school in the state with an academic quiz bowl team, most meets take place in Illinois.
