Bulldogs to host tryouts

The Brookfield Bulldogs will host tryouts for next year's baseball season. Visit for ages and times. The U11 tryouts will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at Brookfield Central and from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday.

Jr. Lancers set girls basketball tryouts

The 2012 girls Junior Lancers Basketball tryouts have been scheduled for the middle of September at Wisconsin Hills.

Fourth-grade tryouts are set for Sept. 17 and the fifth-grade tryouts are scheduled for Sept. 19. Both tryouts are scheduled from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The sixth-grade tryouts are from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sept. 19.

The seventh- and eighth-grade tryouts are from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 21 for seventh-graders and from 6:30 to 8 p.m. for eighth-graders.

All players should arrive 15 minutes before their scheduled tryout time to register and receive tryout numbers. Third graders are also encouraged to try out for the fourth-grade team.

Dineen, Henschel named

to all-time WIAC soccer team

Ryan Dineen of Brookfield and Greg Henschel of Elm Grove both were named to the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Time Men's Soccer Team.

Dineen played at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh from 2001-04 and Henschel at Oshkosh from 1991-94.

The honor is in conjunction with the centennial celebration of the conference.

Durst plays on Lightning

championship volleyball squad

Amanda Durst of Brookfield and St. Dominic's School was part of the West Allis Lightning girls volleyball team which claimed the 15 and under championship at the Volleyball Festival in Phoenix in June.

The team went unbeaten in the weeklong tournament, which featured 75 teams.

Brookfield junior golfers

play well in Journal Sentinel event

Junior golfers from Brookfield did well at the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel youth golf tournament at Currie Park.

Harrison Ott won the boys 13-14 division with a 70, the second-lowest score of a total of 146 boys, while Matt Thomsen won the boys 17-18 division with a 74 and Grace Dunn took the girls 15-16 group with a 75, the lowest score of 56 girls in the tournament.

Sports posters operation to handle BCHS posters

Brookfield Central High School has authorized All-American Sports Posters to produce the school's athletic posters this year. The organization will be contacting local businesses to arrange community sponsorship for the program, and BCHS athletic director Todd Sobrilsky urges all business to consider lending support.

Fast-pitch team wins state title

The Pride of the Midwest U12 Red girls fast-pitch team, based out of Brookfield and led by coach Ashley Webber, took first place at the ASA State Tournament in Wausau, Wis. The program develops softball skills for girls ages 8 to 18.

Jr. Popes to have tryouts

The Jr. Popes baseball program will hold tryouts from 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 11, with U8 to U9 tryouts running from 1 to 2:30 p.m. and U10 to U11 at 2:30 to 4 p.m.

Coaches are being sought for the U8, U9 and U11 age level. The teams play between 14 to 20 league games and three to five tournaments per season. If interested, contact Joe at or call (414) 758-8150.

Meichtry named to prestigious team

Brookfield Central senior Jessica Meichtry was selected to the Badger Region High Performance international junior volleyball team for the second year. The Championships, held in Iowa, began Tuesday.

The 17-year-old Meichtry, an outside hitter, has verbally committed to play volleyball for Central Michigan University, a Division I program that reached the 2011 NCAA women's volleyball national tournament.
