Spartans set Saturday for annual Turkey Trot

The Spartan Athletic Booster Club will hold its 9th Annual Turkey Trot on Saturday at Wirth Park in Brookfield.

This 5K run/2-mile walk raises funds for athletics at Brookfield East High School. Register now to receive a commemorative performance T-shirt, door prizes, medals for the winners of each age bracket and a lot of fun.

Klotz named Whitewater Player of the Week

New Berlin Eisenhower Cole Klotz is a University Wisconsin-Whitewater football player of the week for his efforts against Stevens Point.

Klotz, an Elm Grove resident, is a junior linebacker, who led Whitewater with 11 total tackles (nine solo) against the Pointers. Klotz was also credited with one tackle for a loss (minus two yards).

Both the solo tackles and total tackles are season highs for Klotz. Klotz helped the Warhawks' defense limit the Pointers to 65 yards rushing on 25 attempts (2.6 average), without a rushing touchdown, and 275 total yards of offense.

Several local athletes play at Wisconsin Lutheran College

Several Brookfield athletes are playing at Wisconsin Lutheran College this fall.

Junior Donavin Tucker is a member of the Warriors football team. Donavin, son of Barry Tucker and Linda Ward of Brookfield, is a halfback for the Warriors.

Freshman Ryan Eastman is a member of the soccer team. Ryan, son of Richard and Cynthia Eastman of Brookfield, plays defender for the Warriors.

Sophomore Sarah Kolander and junior Mel Lemke of Brookfield play for the soccer team. Sarah, daughter of John and Anna Kolander, plays midfielder for the Warriors. Last year, Sarah started all 18 games and was named a NAC Scholar-Athlete. Mel, daughter of Brian and Denise Lemke, plays midfielder/goalkeeper for the Warriors.

Team Wisconsin Football began season Sunday

Team Wisconsin Youth Football, an eighth-grade all-star team, began its season Sunday against Team Illinois.

Three Brookfield players are on the team - lineman Chan Bargielski, linebacker Jaiden Banda and running back Jared Liengh.

This border state battle was held at The Wisconsin Dells Center. Team Wisconsin will move on to tournaments in Indianapolis and Cleveland in November.

The team is made up of 27 kids from Southern Wisconsin including the following schools: Catholic Memorial, Brookfield Central, West Bend West, Marquette, Germantown, Oconomowoc, Berlin West and Delavan.

"This is a great group of dedicated kids, who go 100 percent all the time," said Skip Bargielski, general manager of the team. "People thought we were crazy when we started this thing, but it has worked out great."

HLC set boys-girls tryouts for AAU basketball teams

Higher Level Basketball Camps has set tryouts for boys and girls AAU fourth-11th grades traveling teams.

HLC is an off-season basketball program for players who desire to take their game to the next level, focusing on quality over quantity, equal playing time and assisting each player as they develop an inside game, outside game and in-between game.

Tryouts are set for Nov. 17 at 10 a.m. at Greenfield High School Hawks Dome, 4800 S. 60th St.
