NEW! Ten Chimneys Foundation Docent Training Course
Instructor, Kristine Weir-Martell, Director of Program
In 2003, TEN CHIMNEYS, the home lovingly created by Broadway legends Alfred Lunt and Lynn Fontanne, opened to the public as a world-class house museum and national resource for theatre, arts, and arts education. Since then, we’ve welcomed thousands of guests from around the world who, like Lunt friends Noël Coward, Helen Hayes, Laurence Olivier and the like, came to be inspired and beguiled and relish their time in the country. With Lunt-like attention and care, guests are led through the estate by our knowledgeable Docents who have successfully completed an in¬tensive, comprehensive 14-week training program. For the first time ever, Ten Chimneys Foundation is proud to partner with UW-Waukesha to offer this nationally recognized Docent Training Course for Continuing Education Units (CEU).
The Docent Training Course includes a historical study of the Lunts and their era, an in-depth exploration of the decorative arts found at Ten Chimneys, and a focus on the core values for which the Lunts were best remembered. Those who successfully complete the training will join our remarkable corps of volunteers and make a commitment to offer at least 10 volunteer hours each month of the tour season (May through mid-November). Active Docents are also invited to attend volunteer meetings held 4 times a year, participate in continuing education sessions, and gather for a much-anticipated Volunteer Picnic held on the estate grounds. The heart of the Ten Chimneys tour experience is storytelling, and our passionate, highly trained Docents have an important role in bringing the Lunts’ most memorable stories to life. We invite you to join our corps of volunteers who, in addition to a rewarding and revered role at Ten Chimneys, find inspiration, personal growth, and a delightful community of eclectic friends.
